IRS2Go tracks your tax returns
Wondering when—if ever—the federal government is going to get your tax refund back to you? A new iPhone app from the Internal Revenue Service means the days of checking your bank balance every 10 minutes is over.
IRS2Go made its debut in the iOS App Store this week. Users can track the status of their return by entering their Social Security number—the IRS says this information is “masked and encrypted”—as well their filing status and the expected amount of their return. E-filers will be able to track their return status within 72 hours of filing; users who file paper returns through the mail will have to wait three to four weeks before their information becomes available.
The app also lets users sign up for daily tax tips from the IRS, and offers access to the agency’s Twitter feed. And if you need more immediate assistance with a tax return or understanding a notice you've received, you can call IRS agents directly from the app.
IRS2Go is free, and compatible with devices running iOS 3.0 or later. An Android-compatible app also debuted this week.
