Speck’s $50 PixelSkin HD Wrap is an excellent skin-style case option for your iPad 2 that is designed similarly to Apple’s Smart Cover.

Like the Smart Cover, the PixelSkin has a bendable screen cover that can be folded backwards into a viewing and typing stand. Speck’s PixelSkin, however, provides protection for the iPad’s back as well. The iPad is placed into a rubber frame that tightly hugs the tablet’s back and edges. While the PixelSkin provides extra protection, the case’s cover does not include an automatic wake and sleep feature, which can be a downside for those looking for a Smart Cover alternative.

Speck’s consistent product quality is evident with the PixelSkin. The case adds very little bulk to the device, the glossy and matte pixel-patterned cover give it a slick, cool look, and all of the ports and buttons are easy to access. For those looking for color, the PixelSkin also comes in pink and blue, beyond the standard black. This is a great case for anyone who wants to keep their iPad 2 thin, while still protecting the entire tablet.
