For the iPad-toting, eco-conscious buyer, Marware’s $55 Eco-Vue folio case offers iPad 2 users protection and stand options with a leather exterior. The EcoVue’s inside cover features a landscape-mode keyboard stand and a hand strap, as well as an elastic strap that helps keep the folio open or closed. The folio cover can also be folded back to act as a landscape-mode viewing stand, but it starts to flatten out if the angle gets too extreme.

A major selling point for the EcoVue is its “eco-leather.” The leather used to make this case is not dyed using traditional leather tanning processes. To remain RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant, Marware uses no chlorine, sulfuric acid, petroleum, or chemical-based dyes. The leather is available in only one color: a basic black.

Guilt-free leather is nice, but this case is just too bulky to take everywhere you go. The cover seems unnecessarily padded—the case is nearly an inch thick when closed. And when the iPad is inside the case, its volume and Sleep/Wake buttons are hard to reach. The other ports, however, are easily accessible. There are holes for both front and backs cameras, and the speaker, though slightly covered, isn’t significantly muffled. Since all of the folio’s features are located on the inside cover, its appearance when closed is sleek. Unfortunately, the size and weight make the case awkward to use on a day-to-day basis.
