Iomega unveils StorCenter ix2 network storage device
On Monday, Iomega announced a new desktop network storage device for small offices and homes, the StorCenter ix2.
Shipping in February, the StorCenter features a compact design, two 2.5-inch storage bays, and support for IP surveillance cameras. Prices will range from $200 for an empty enclosure to $770 for a unit with two 3TB drives installed.
With the StorCenter ix2, Iomega claims to have simplified the installation and setup of network storage devices. The unit ships without an installation CD, opting for downloadable software from Iomega's website. The company's Iomega Link app for iOS devices will let you upload contacts and photos from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch with a single click and let you stream movies and music from the StorCenter ix2, as well as preview stored documents.
The StorCenter ix2 supports Time Machine and also comes with Iomega's own QuickProtect Backup software and Iomega's Personal Cloud access. You can also connect up to five network security cameras and capture video without the need for a dedicated computer. When you connect cameras from Axis, Panasonic, or Bosch, the StorCenter will allow you to monitor live video from a Web browser.
