iSkin Aura for iPhone 4/4S
At a Glance
The attractive and modern-looking iSkin Aura for the iPhone 4/4S ($40) is a hard-shell case with a brushed-aluminum finish, which iSkin refers to as “aircraft-grade.” The edges and inside of the case contain a softer, smoother material so as to not scratch your iPhone. The Aura comes in three color combinations: grey with black edges, blue with black edges, and silver with white edges (however, iSkin does not recommend using the camera flash with the silver case, so keep that in mind when selecting your color scheme). Each case has a thin silver line around the edges, around the camera hole, and in a gentle swoop design on the back.
The Aura ships with a transparent-film protector for your screen along with a microfiber cloth, LCD anti-static cleaning wipes, and some iSkin decals. This case will protect your phone from getting scratched up in your pocket or bag, but perhaps not as well from drops. But the edges of the case do not come up over the screen at all, so if you drop the phone with the screen side down, you’re relying solely on the protective film (if you choose to use it) to prevent damage.
All of the iPhone's buttons, switches and ports are easily accessible via cut-outs in the case, and the case will work with the iPhone 4S as well as both the CDMA and GSM versions of the iPhone 4. The Aura is so thin that you shouldn’t have any trouble getting the iPhone into your dock-cradle accessories with the case on. If you do need to get the case off, it’s not easy to get a grip on it due to its thinness, but it’s doable.
When shopping for a case, you have to choose your own balance between protection and thinness. This case is definitely thin, which means it’s not as protective as some cases are, but might be just what you’re looking for if you usually keep your phone in a purse or laptop bag. Though the $40 price tag may be a little high for its level of protection, the iSkin Aura is definitely an aesthetically pleasing case.
