Freestyle ‘split’ keyboard debuts for Mac

Kinesis has introduced the Freestyle Solo “split” keyboard. It’s priced at $99.

The Freestyle keyboard splits in half so users can maintain a more ergonomically correct posture while typing. Your hands travel less far on a split keyboard and you don’t need to rotate your wrists and hands in ways that can ultimately lead to repetitive stress injuries.

The Freestyle Solo can separate its two halves up to eight inches. Escape, Deleted and Backspace keys are double-wide to make them easier to find. The entire keyboard uses quiet tactile switches with special low force to reduce typing effort, according to the manufacturer.

Kinesis also offers a separate numeric keypad and palm supports. Other accessories include an incline accessory that adds a 10 degree lateral slope (“tenting”) to relax your forearm muscles. Kinesis also makes the V-Lifter and Integrated Palm Supports (or VIP) accessory.

The Freestyle Solo is plug-and-play compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
