EA announces iPhone game lineup

by Peter Cohen, Macworld.com

Electronic Arts (EA) has unveiled its lineup of iPhone games, available with the launch of the App Store. The first three native EA Mobile iPhone games from EA are Scrabble, Sudoku and Tetris. Sudoku is priced at $9.99, while Scrabble and Tetris are $14.99 each.

Scrabble lets you use the iPhone’s multitouch interface to zoom in and out and drag and drop tiles. Want to shuffle tiles? Shake your iPhone. It includes a built-in word list, “Best Word” help feature, score and stat tracking and dynamic animations. You can also select from multiple difficulty levels, change game rules, play alone, against the computer, or against two to four players using “Pass ‘n Play” mode.

EA’s version of the number logic puzzle game Sudoku lets you work your way through 10,000 Sudoku grids with five difficulty levels. You can tap Regular Grid mode, or enter your favorite magazine or Internet puzzle in Newspaper mode. An annotated keyboard kets you enter your selection, and features include error checking hint and Candidate Numbers auto-fill.

Tetris is a version of the classic falling blocks puzzle game that’s been around since the 1980s. You can pinch, drag, tap and shake to clear rows across 15 levels, with music and sound effects and custom animated backgrounds. Two different play modes are included — Marathon Mode and the new “Magic Mode,” implemented specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch.

EA’s iPhone games had not been posted to the App Store as Macworld posted this article.
