Europa Universalis strategy game to come to iPhone

Virtual Programming has reached an agreement with Hendrickson Software Components (HSC) to develop an iPhone version of Europa Universalis, the popular turn-based strategy game developed for the PC by Paradox Interactive.

Virtual Programming already licenses and publishes a Macintosh version of the game, which is a turn-based “grand strategy” series that focuses on the expansion of Europe during the imperial age. The game focuses on exploration, trade, warfare and diplomacy.

HSC is best known to Mac users for their products including Purify, a spam filtering, tracing and reporting tool. They’ve also developed an e-mail archiving utility called Compass, BioAx, a biometric finger print registration and validation tool, and a REALbasic spellcheck utility.

According to HSC owner Jeff Hendrickson, it’s been a long-term goal of his business to expand into computer game development. “The Virtual Programming Ltd opportunity allows us to work with the best supporting their iPhone game porting efforts for this exciting game, along with actively supporting software development using the new iPhone SDK,” he said.
