Tiny iPod microphone is almost microscopic

Microphones that plug into the iPod have been around for quite some time, but oftentimes they’ve been bulky apparatuses that plug into the dock-connector port. If you’re looking for compact, check out this teeny tiny little microphone that plugs into the iPod’s headphone jack.

Comptaible with the iPhone 3G, second-generation iPod touch, fourth-generation iPod nano, and 120GB iPod classic, the mic weighs a piddling 4.5 grams and measures in at 36mm lonag and just 13mm in diameter. Which, of course, is just small enough that you can carry it around with you and yet you’ll still have lost it for the one time that you really want to use it. For the iPhone or iPod touch, you’ll have to download a voice-recording program from the App Store, while the nano and classic can take advantage of the built-in software.

Still, for just $15 (plus shipping), at least it’s not a huge expense. You never know when you might need to record that choice conversation that helps nab a criminal’s confession or, if you swing the other way, lets you get that perfect piece of blackmail. Not that we’re endorsing that, you understand.
