AIM Paid hits the App Store

AIM Free, AOL’s chat service application for the iPhone, was released in late February with the promise of a paid version to follow. Today, the paid version was released on the App Store.

If you were hoping for a slew of new features for your $3, you’re going to be disappointed. The only difference between AIM Free and AIM is the ads. The paid version is ad free, otherwise the feature set is the same.

That’s not to say there aren’t some good features in the latest update. You can now stay logged into the network for 24 hours, even if AIM isn’t running. You also have the option to set up SMS notifications that will alert you when you receive a new IM.

You can also access your Contacts from within the AIM application. This allows you to send an IM to a screen name or an SMS to a phone number.

AIM (paid) costs $3 and AIM Free is, well, free.
