Thinking outside the box
First things first, we got it out of the box.
New phone meets the old phone.
There are just two screws underneath the iPhone. This makes it easier to get into than many other devices.
A small suction cup is your best friend when it comes to removing the screen.
The are seven numbered connectors on the logic board, up from the six on the 3G.
Connector number seven is in the lower right corner, just above the dock connector.
There are three cables holding the LCD and digitizer to the rest of the logic board.
Here are the two halves of the iPhone 3G S. All the chips are hidden behind the large EMI shields.

There's a lot packed into this shot. The Apple chip is the primary Samsung ARM processor. The 16GB of Toshiba flash memory are now on the front of the board.

The battery is listed as 3.7V and 4.51Whr. This comes out out to 1219 mAh, compared to 1150 mAh on the 3G. That's only a 6% increase.

Video recording is a long-overdue feature of the iPhone 3G S. The 3G S records video at 640x480 resolution and 30 fps.
