If you’re a fan of keeping your text fully wrangled, you will surely be delighted to learn that Bare Bones Software on Tuesday released TextWrangler 3.1.
The fine developers at Bare Bones may be more famous for the company’s premium text-editing software BBEdit, but TextWrangler serves as BBEdit’s free, lighter-weight younger sibling. And while TextWrangler remains free and feature-limited compared to its older brother, the 3.1 update does add some cool stuff.
TextWrangler has long provided in-app support for searching across multiple files. Now, a new “twfind” Unix command is included with the software, so that Terminal jockeys can leverage its power from the command line.
Additionally, TextWranger’s built-in FTP/SFTP browser now (finally!) allows for the immediate creation of new files or folders on remote servers.
On the more minor side of the fence, the software now includes an “Unlearn Spelling” option, for when you accidentally add a “catastrofee” to the dictionary and need to get it out of there.
The release packs dozens of other enhancements and fixes as well. TextWrangler requires OS X 10.4 or later, and works on both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs. The 3.1 update is available now, and is truly free as in beer.
