The Week in iPhone Cases: All the leaves are brown

As October presses on, the leaves have started turning yellow and are falling from the trees, reminding all of us that winter is only a few short weeks away. What better time than now to look for a new case for your iPhone? As always, your friends at Macworld bring you the latest in fashionable protection for your handsets of choice.

iGearUnlimited's Slim Leather Case

iGearUnlimited: The Slim Leather Case (iPhone 5; $50) is a rubberized snap-on shell case that offers excellent protection, and features a convenient leather pocket that can hold a few plastic cards or some paper money. The yellow stitching gives the otherwise solid-black case a little splash of color and a very distinctive look. iGearUnlimited is currently offering 15 percent off for customers who connect with the company via Twitter and Facebook.

iLuv's Parasol

iLuv: The Parasol (iPhone 5; $25) is a stylish pouch that features a beautiful fluid-line pattern, and is available in black, pink, grey, brown, or aqua. Its ballistic-nylon construction offers solid protection from both physical shock and the elements, while a snap closure ensures that your handset stays put. A convenient carabiner at the top makes it easy to hook the Parasol to your purse or backpack.

Luardi's Easy Grip Alluminio

Luardi: The Easy Grip Alluminio (iPhone 5; $50) is a high-grade aluminum bumper case with a special grip designed to make it comfortable for prolonged use. The case can be installed without having to resort to using a screwdriver, and comes with a flexible vinyl skin that can be applied to the back of your iPhone for added protection and style.

The ReadyCase

ReadyCase: We don’t often cover crowd-funded projects in this column, but we couldn’t overlook the ReadyCase (iPhone 4, 4S, and 5; starts at $40), a case that would make MacGyver proud. Like any good case, it protects your iPhone from bumps and scratches without adding significant bulk; unlike most other cases, however, it comes with an impressive array of accessories, including a multitool knife, a lens ring, an earphone wrap, and a USB memory stick that doubles as a stand in both landscape and portrait orientation.

SwitchEasy's Pure

SwitchEasy: The Pure (iPhone 5; $13) is a screen protector that helps keep dust, scratches, and fingerprints away from the front and back of your iPhone. It comes in three varieties: UltraClear, which offers superior optical transparency; Matte, which helps reduce glare; and Mirror, which provides superior privacy from prying eyes. The Pure’s dry-application method is simple and quick, and the protector leaves no residue if you decide to remove it.

T8's Storm

T8: The Storm (iPhone 4 and 4S; $60) is a leather snap-on shell case that features two external pockets, where you can safely stow away some cards or cash. A convenient loop at the top of the case can be used in conjunction with one of T8’s lanyards (available for an extra $15) to securely hang your iPhone from your neck or wrist. The Storm comes in black or tan leather, with red or blue accents.

USBFever: The TPU Silicone Case (iPhone 5; $1) is probably the least expensive iPhone case we have seen in a while—or ever. Made of soft silicone gel, it offers excellent protection and an improved grip, and comes in a wide variety of colors, including clear, blue, frost white, lime, or smoky black. If you’re looking for that extra premium value, USBFever will be happy to sell you pink or blue models—which, however, will set you back an extra… $0.50.
