Playing Name that Tune might get a little easier in iOS 8, according to a report from Bloomberg that suggests Apple is partnering with Shazam to add native song-identification features to its mobile operating system. You may even be able to ask Siri “What song is playing?” and have it tell you—and perhaps even have the virtual assistant sing a few bars? For Apple’s part, this could help drive sales to the iTunes Store by capitalizing on impulse purchases; plus, Shazam’s been building out its technology to allow it to recognize TV shows and movies as well.
More revelations from the Apple-Samsung trial, including the not-terribly-surprising-but-still-distasteful news that Samsung used the passing of Steve Jobs to launch its Next Big Thing ads, which directly targeted users of Apple devices. Like sausages and laws, advertising is one of those things you don’t want to see made.
More car vendors are showing off their CarPlay-compatible systems this week at the New York International Auto Show, including Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai. As with the previous versions we’ve seen, each car company seems to have taken their own different tacks to integrating iOS into their cars. Apple also confirmed on its CarPlay page that both Alpine and Pioneer will be offering aftermarket units that support CarPlay, so good news for all of us who weren’t going to run out and buy a new car.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple will be celebrating Earth Day on April 22 by turning its iconic logo green at its retail stores; the company made a similar move on World AIDS Day, changing its logo to red. Cupertino has been a vocal proponent of environmentalism: Its data centers are 100-percent powered by renewable energy, and its new campus aims to also derive much of its power from green sources. No truth, however, to the rumor that all Apple Stores will be handing out Granny Smiths next week.
