MacAmp 2.0.0 improves broadcasting, more

Subband Software, Inc. has announced that AMP Radio has gone through a major update, and has changed its name back to MacAmp. MacAmp 2.0.0 is now available for download.

MacAmp is a digital audio file player for the Macintosh. The software provides support for Internet radio stations broadcast using the SHOUTcast and Icecast protocols. It also sports hierarchical playlists for local audio files, and supports a range of different audio file formats, including MP3, AIFF, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, CD Audio and many more. You can also use MacAmp to broadcast your own live Internet radio stream, free.

MacAmp incorporates tracking services to help users find Internet radio stations, and can bookmark frequently accessed stations for future use. It also supports DSP plugins to help equalize audio, enhance mono signals, and filter low pass frequencies to make music sound better. The software also provides the capability to record any MP3 stream.

New features in 2.0.0 including improved broadcasting capabilities, with real time status info and better stability; and improved playlist command with support for ID3 columns, inline playlist ID3 tag editing, and order column support; a better tracker with a bookmarks tab; and other various changes.

MacAmp 2.0.0 is available as a free time-limited demo (streaming recording is limited to 3 minute sessions for the unregistered version). After 14 days, users are required to pay a US$15 registration fee to continue using the software. System requirements call for Mac OS 8.5 or later; 3000K RAM devoted to MacAmp; and Internet access (for streaming capabilities).
