FireWire Solo records guitar tracks directly to Mac

M-Audio has released the FireWire Solo, a bus-powered unit with a quarter-inch guitar jack and microphone input on the front. You can use it to record guitar tracks -- electric or acoustic, as well as vocals or other instruments -- directly into your Mac. The guitar jack and mic feature gain control and clipping LEDs while dual line inputs handle effects, drum machines and other outboard equipment.

The unit connects via FireWire, of course, which allows up to 24-bit/96kHz audio recording with near-zero latency monitoring. A second FireWire port allows you to daisy-chain FireWire devices and an optional power supply lets you plug it in if you'd rather not draw juice from your computer. Pricing is US$249.95.
