Spamcaster Gateway offers OS X anti-spam management

Outspring Inc. -- the new makers of QuickMail -- have announced Spamcaster Gateway. It's an OS X administration tool designed to work with existing e-mail servers to help block spam and other unwanted e-mail.

Outspring CEO Jeff Baudin described Spamcaster Gateway in a statement as a Mac OS X alternative to Barracuda, the popular enterprise-strength spam firewall solution. Spamcaster works with "practically every" e-mail server and Internet Service Provider (ISP), according to Outspring.

Spamcaster Gateway works in conjunction with a service from Outspring to continually get new database updates. The database itself contains identifiers that detect spam, "phishing" e-mails and virus attachments, and flags, deletes, bounces, blocks or quarantines the unwanted e-mail.

Outspring plans to ship Spamcaster Gateway by the second calendar quarter of 2005. Spamcaster Gateway will cost US$500, which includes a one-year subscription to the database update service.

Spamcaster Gateway will be show at next week's Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Calif. from January 11 - 14, 2005. Look for Outspring at booth 820.
