NAB: G-SAFE, G-RAID Pro debut

G-Technology Inc. on Monday introduces G-SAFE, a FireWire 800 storage system with hardware-based RAID mirroring, as well as G-RAID Pro, a new line of FireWire 800 RAID systems.

G-SAFE is Mac and PC-compatible and features a hardware-based RAID 1 controller, which mirrors data to two hard drive mechanisms simultaneously. The device features 7200RPM drives with 8Mb caches, and is offered in capacities up to 500GB. Encased in an aluminum enclosure, G-SAFE drives start at US$499 and will be available starting in May.

The G-RAID Pro line provides hardware-based RAID Level 3 support (bit-interleaved parity), with storage capacities of up to 2 terabytes (TB) using five disk drive modules. G-Technology claims the G-RAID Pro systems can support the playback of up to three simultaneous layers of uncompressed video while providing full-time data protection using disk drive modules that can be hot-swapped and rebuilt in the event of a failure. The systems connect to a Mac or PC using FireWire 800 and are clad in aluminum. They'll be available in June starting at $1,499.

G-Technology's Web site had not been updated with information about the new storage systems as MacCentral posted this article.
