Iogear offers faster Bluetooth USB adapters

Newer Macs can come equipped with a Bluetooth 2.0 interface to connect to wireless devices like PDAs, cell phones, printers and more. What’s the user of an older Mac, or a Mac purchased without a Bluetooth 2.0 module, to do? Iogear now offers USB-based Bluetooth 2.0 adapters that are Mac and PC-compatible. They’re available starting at $39.95.

The Bluetooth 2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) standard supported by these adapters provides up to 2.1 megabits per second data transfer rate. The devices are downwardly compatible with slower Bluetooth devices that use the 1.1 and 1.2 specifications, and both are USB 1.1 compliant.

Iogear makes a Class 1 adapter for $49.95 and a Class 2 adapter for $39.95. The Class 1 adapter offers a wireless range of up to 330 feet, while the Class 2 adapter works up to 66 feet.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later and an available USB port.
