Mark/Space acquires MySync Mac to Mac sync software

Mark/Space, makers of the Missing Sync line of software synchronization products, has acquired MySync, a product that enables to, in the words of the developer, do “Mac to Mac syncing without .Mac.”

MySync enables multiple Macs to synchronize their Safari bookmarks, calendars, contact info, mail account info, rules, signatures and smart mailboxes. Such synchronization capabilities are present in Apple’s .Mac service, which costs $99.95 per year. By comparison, MySync — which has been in beta development — costs nothing to use (though the software was set up with an expiring 30-day trial license that could be renewed through the Web site).

MySync can detect other MySync nodes on the local network using BonJour; syncs any type of data that’s compatible with Tiger’s Sync Services; supports remote syncing and SSL encryption, as well as password authentication, and more. It’s a Universal Binary that runs natively on Intel and PowerPC-based Macs.

The news came from the blog of MildMannered Industries, developer of MySync. In reporting the acquisition, the developer said that he’ll continue to work on technical development of MySync and that Mark/Space and MildMannered hope to continue publishing beta releases as they move towards a 1.0 release. Mark/Space will assume product support, marketing and distribution responsibilities.

“From your point of view, you should expect to see many improvements, and some exciting new features over the coming weeks and months, and much improved response times to support requests,” he said.

Mark/Space’s products are branded as The Missing Sync. They provide data synchronization capabilities for Palm PDAs — including many not supported with a Mac native version of Palm Desktop, Microsoft Pocket PC-based devices, and most recently, the Sony PlayStation Portable.
