eMusic surpasses 250,000 subscribers
Online independent music reseller eMusic on Monday announced that it has surpassed 250,000 subscribers. The company claims to be the second largest online music service behind Apple’s iTunes Store.
The news comes four months after eMusic announced that it had hit the 200,000 subscriber mark. In December, the company announced that it had some 100 million downloads in three years. And in September, the company expanded its reach into European Union (EU) countries. By comparison, Apple recently revealed that its iTunes Store has sold more than 2 billion songs.
eMusic provides content in MP3 audio file format, without encrypting or otherwise encumbering the files with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.
