Freeverse working on new 3D card games

Freeverse Software has announced in the latest edition of their electronic newsletter that they’re working on new OpenGL-based 3D versions of their popular card games. A sneak preview is available from their Web site discussion board.

Freeverse President Ian Lynch Smith said in a posting to the board that the company is hoping to release the new games in time for the summer. The company is soliciting users who want to beta-test the new games, and expects to begin seeding test versions in March.

Freeverse is a long-time developer and publisher of original Mac games such as 3D Hearts Deluxe, Burning Monkey Solitaire and Wingnuts 2: Raina’s Revenge. They’ve diversified into Mac applications, selling retail versions of Comic Life Deluxe and Sound Studio 3, for example, offering Lineform, a vector-based illustration software app, and many other titles.

Although they’ve previously branded their card games with a 3D moniker, those titles were based strictly on 2D rendering technology, forcing a simple 3D perspective. The new games are remakes of their existing titles using a new graphics engine that renders the environment in “true” 3D using OpenGL graphics.
