Create a custom iPod case from your own vinyl

Vancouver, B.C.-based Contexture Design is offering a custom iPod case-making service for music enthusiasts who are done with their old vinyl collection. The company, which began offering protective cases in January, is now offering the ability to make a case for your from your own records. Such cases cost CAN$52 (US$44.43).

In January, Contexture (as 45 iPod Cases) began offering iPod cases for iPods ranging from 20GB to 80GB capacity. The cases are made of old vinyl records, thermoformed and equipped with recycled felt padding, cork and an acrylic glass window, and cost CAN$45 (US$38.45) each. The center hole of the record is positioned to fit exactly around the iPod’s click wheel.

Based on customer demand for specific artists or songs, the company decided to begin offering custom iPod cases made of 7-inch vinyl records from the customer’s own collection. Contexture co-founder Nathan Lee says it’s a way of giving second life to records that are scratched or not being used.
