Penumbra: Overture game is Mac-bound

Frictional Games has noted plans to release a Macintosh version of Penumbra: Overture, a first-person adventure game with a creepy twist. The game is being released episodically, and will cost $19.99.

Penumbra: Overture thrusts you into the role of Philip who, days after his mother’s death, receives a letter from beyond the grave. He’s led to a metal hatch in the middle of a frozen wasteland.

Penumbra utilizes a 3D graphics engine and an advanced physics system which allows for you to interact with the environment, picking up objects, opening drawers and pulling levers using natural mouse movements.

Frictional Games claims that Penumbra: Overture emphasizes puzzle-solving and using your wits over combat, however, so the game is far from a first-person shooter.

A beta demo release is available — visit the Frictional Games forums for details. The demo is a Universal binary and it requires ATI or Nvidia graphics.
