Zeppelin speaker system for iPod debuts

Audiophile-quality audio component maker Bowers & Wilkins has announced its Zeppelin speaker system for the iPod. No, it doesn’t have anything to do with the classic rock band Led Zeppelin — it’s an ovoid-shaped integrated speaker system for the iPod that looks like dirigible from which it gets its name. It costs $599.

The Zeppelin features an integrated iPod dock and holder. It’s two feet wide and sports a tapered shape and stainless steel construction. The design contains midrange drivers and tweeters, along with a five-inch subwoofer located in the center, enhanced by twin rear-firing ports.

The Zeppelin sports proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and 50 watts to its woofer, 25 watts to each of the two mid/high frequency drivers. It uses passive crossover circuits and glass-fiber construction; the tweeters feature aluminum domes.

The AC-powered Zeppelin has an auto-switching international power supply and the 30-pin dock doesn’t require an adapter for different iPod models; it sports a spring-loaded design. A mini-remote is also included that lets you play, pause, select tracks and adjust volume; it also lets you set a five-position bass equalizer.

The Zeppelin is coming to Apple retail stores this month.
