DNA sequencer 4Peaks now supports plug-ins, more

by Brad Cook, MacCentral

Netherlands Cancer Institute PhD students Alexander Griekspoor and Tom Groothuis, who go by the moniker Mek & Tosj when developing their scientific applications, recently announced the release of 4Peaks 1.5, a new version of their DNA sequence file viewer. It adds support for plug-ins, a customizable search function, and localization in Dutch, French, and German.

To kick off plug-in support in 4Peaks, Griekspoor and Groothuis are also offering a plug-in called SDK. It contains everything you need to create your own plug-ins, including documentation, templates, and sample plug-ins. SDK is open source; the two scientists encourage users to explore its framework and modify it for their own uses.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2.6 "Jaguar" or higher. 4Peaks is freeware.
