Excel offers beta for MacA&D for OS X

Excel Software on Tuesday announced a beta program for its software engineering tool, MacA&D, for Mac OS X. The company will offer users who buy the Developer edition of the current Mac OS 9 product the ability to participate in the beta program, along with a free update. MacA&D automates requirements management, software modeling, code generation, reengineering and report generation for software developers.

The company also announced a new version of MacA&D for Mac OS 9 (this version also functions in Mac OS X's "Classic" mode). The new 7.5 version sports modeling enhancements, a command to export documents to the new XML format Excel will use for MacA&D for Mac OS X and a new mode for evaluation MacTranslator, a companion tool used for reengineering source code into models.

MacA&D Standard edition costs US$495; the company also offers Educational, Desktop and Developer editions from $845 to $1,995.
