Buried in its announcement that it is shipping Final Cut Studio 5.1 as a Universal Binary for Intel-based Macs, Apple also announced that its Universal Binary version of Aperture, v1.1, has been moved back to April. The company originally announced a March release.
Aperture is Apple’s post-processing software for professional photographers. It combines photo management capabilities and cataloging features with image editing, publishing and presentation capabilities.
“Aperture 1.1, the first Universal version of the revolutionary all-in-one post production tool for photographers featuring greatly improved RAW quality and impressive performance gains on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs, will ship in April,” said Apple.
In December Apple released an update to Aperture that improved metadata handling and issues related to reliability and performance.
Aperture 1.1 was first shown off at the Photo Marketing Association show in Orlando, Fla. in February. It sports myriad enhancements besides Universal Binary support, including improvements in RAW image file decoding, automatic noise compensation, a new color meter and much more. At the time, Apple indicated that Aperture 1.1 would be released in March as a free update.
