NetNewsWire 3.0 adds desktop integration

by Peter Cohen, MacCentral

NewsGator Technologies has released NetNewsWire 3.0, a major new upgrade to its newsreading software for Mac OS X. It costs $29.95. NetNewsWire enables Mac users to subscribe to and read newsfeeds published using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and Atom technology.

NetNewsWire 3.0 sports desktop integration — it now works with Spotlight, Address Book, iCal, iPhoto, the third-party Growl notification system, Twitterific and more.

New view features include a “combined” view, feed “cover art,” full-screen mode, and tabs with thumbnails and animations. Performance has been improved thanks to a new storage system and memory optimization, as well. NetNewsWire can automatically sort feeds by attention, printing has been added, you can now e-mail the contents of a news item or page, Del.icio.us posting is supported and much more.

NetNewsWire is a free upgrade for the duration of your NewsGator Online Premium Package’s duration.

System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later. NetNewsWire is a Universal binary.

(DISCLAIMER: Mac Publishing, publisher of Macworld, entered into a business relationship with NewsGator, publisher of NetNewsWire, that will include providing services on Macworld.com and possibly selling a news reader application based on NetNewsWire.)
