Audiophiles will want to stick with their separate-speaker systems, but if you’re in the market for an audio system that’s easy, elegant, and attractive, the Model L should be at the top of your shopping list.

Both the iLuv i177 and JBL On Time are clocks that sport iPod docks for playing your favorite tunes first thing in the morning. Of the two, the iLuvi177 is the better alarm clock, while the On Time features superior sound.

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM9 offers performance not found in any other portable system for under $200. And its rugged design should help it stand up to the rigors of travel. If you don’t need a wireless remote control and your audio tastes tilt toward bass and away from treble, the iM9 is an excellent speaker system for the iPod.
