20-inch iMac Core 2 Duo/2.66GHz

Apple updated its all-in-one desktop line to include next-generation Core 2 Duo processors, which boost the amount of shared L2 cache to 6MB and the frontside bus to 1,066MHz. Besides a processor boost to a 2.66GHz chip, the mid-range iMac also ships with 2GB of RAM now, a change from its predecessor. The 320GB hard-drive capacity and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card remain unchanged.

This 20-inch iMac offers a good blend of price and performance; it's certainly a better value than the 2.4GHz model. Unfortunately, the one major thing we didn't like about the first-generation aluminum iMac--the poor viewing angle on the 20-inch screen--hasn't changed for the better. Still, our praise of the previous generation still applies: The iMac offers enough features for both general consumers and professionals.

Pros: Compact, all-in-one design; built-in wireless capabilities; good video frame-rate performance; better value for the money than the low-end model.

Cons: Viewing angle not as good as on the 24-inch model; glossy screen may frustrate some users.
