iPhone 4 Cases: Shells and Skins

Shells and skins generally cover the back and sides of your iPhone 4, but not its screen, offering moderate protection while letting you use the iPhone in its case. They range from thin, soft-silicone coverings to polycarbonate protection to gaming grips. Here are our reviews of iPhone 4 shells and skins. (Click on a product to read its full review.) Recently reviewed cases include Incipio's Feather and Edge and Case-Mate's ID Credit Card Case.

Incipio Feather

iPhone cases can't get much lighter or more minimal than this. The Incipio Feather case is thin, with a hold-able texture and access to all the necessary ports.

Speck Products Fitted Case for iPhone 4

The Fitted Case provides good protection from bumps and drops, as well as a unique style. As long as you don't need to use larger third-party cables and plugs, or use a dock-cradle accessory, the Fitted Case is a solid choice.

Griffin Technology Reveal Etch for iPhone 4

Incase Snap Case for iPhone 4

The Snap Case doesn't add much bulk or hide the iPhone's good looks. It's also an appealing option if you plan to use your iPhone with third-party accessories, and the included stand is a nice bonus. But the case is quite slippery and doesn't offer a lot of protection.

Griffin Technology Perforated Silicone for iPhone 4

If you're a fan of "silicone skin" cases, this is the closest you'll get from the offerings in Apple's free-case program. It's also a good case if you plan to use third-party accessories, thanks to large openings for plugs and connections and an easy-to-remove design. But it also suffers from the drawbacks of silicone.

Speck Products PixelSkin HD Case for iPhone 4

The PixelSkin HD provides decent (non-screen) protection without adding much bulk to your iPhone.

Incipio Edge

The Edge's tight design may interfere with the included screen protector, but this is an otherwise well-constructed case that offers decent protection and dock-ability.
