Maxtor Corp., which makes hard disk drives and storage solutions, has expanded its Maxtor Personal Storage 5000 Family of FireWire hard drives to include the Personal Storage 5000DV. It's a 200GB capacity 7200PRM speed drive with 8MB cache.

The 200GB/7200RPM solution comes with the Maxtor OneTouch push button backup copying capability that lets you make backup copies of files and applications with a push of the OneTouch button. It comes with Dantz Retrospect Express backup software and is equipped with both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces.

The 200GB/7200RPM is compatible with both Macs and Wintel systems. The suggested retail price is US$399.95.

In related news, Maxtor is showing off a concept drive that uses FireWire 800 -- the new, faster interface built in to Apple's forthcoming PowerBook G4s. The 200GB drive sports 8MB of cache to help leverage the transfer rate of the faster bus.
