Lexmark Inc. has introduced a new All-In-One Print Center, the Lexmark X5150, a sub-US$150 digital imaging center. The new device offers 4800 dpi (dots per inch) resolution on all paper types, a quality flatbed scanner, personal computer-fax capabilities and one-touch color copying. The X5150 -- which has a black exterior with metallic accents -- supports Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.

Lexmark says the all-in-one's PrecisionSense media sensing technology automatically determines the type of stock in the paper tray and adjusts the printer driver to optimize output. It's capable of 4800 x 1200 dpi in black and color on photo paper, inkjet paper transparencies, and on plain paper. Plus, there's variable color drop size technology -- three picoliters for textured areas and 10 picoliters for solid areas -- designed to provide smooth color transitions and detail.

The X5150 is capable of print speeds up to 19 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 14 ppm in color. Its Accu-Feed paper handling technology accommodates a range of media, including labels, envelopes, index cards, greeting cards and iron-on transfers.

The integrated Photo-Editing Software performs image editing functions -- such as cropping and resizing, "red-eye" removal, and color manipulation -- without the need for extra software. The X5150's photo sizing ability automatically adjusts images to print in picture sizes such as wallet, 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 inches.

The All-In-One Print Center lets you copy text documents, color graphics, and photographs without having to turn on your Mac. You have the option of reducing or enlarging images 25 to 400 percent. In draft mode, the Lexmark X5150 can generate up to 16 copies per minute (cpm) in black and up to 11 cpm in color.

With its CCD flatbed scanning technology, the Lexmark X5150 can handle photographs and books of varied thickness, and offers an effective scan area of 8.5 x 11.7 inches with 600 x 2400-dpi optical resolution and 48-bit true color/12-bit grayscale.
