Celartem Technology Inc. subsidiary Extensis Inc. today released Portfolio 6.1 for Mac OS X, the latest version of its Digital Asset Management (DAM) software. The new version adds Mac OS compatibility and offers new features, too.

Portfolio is offered as a way for creative pros to share, organize, retrieve and distribute digital files. It works with photos, scans, digital art, and other assets, providing drag and drop capabilities into products like Photoshop or QuarkXPress. You can also publish on the Web.

Besides Mac OS X compatibility, Portfolio 6.1 provides a new user interface updated for Mac OS X as well. The new version also adds a new "recently used catalogs" menu, which provides you with access to any recently opened catalog through a pop-up menu item. Long filenames are supported, as well.

Portfolio 6.1 has been designed exclusively for Mac OS X -- it requires Jaguar. Extensis said that Portfolio 6.0.1 will continue to support "Classic" Mac OS versions from 8.6 through 9.2.2.

Boxed versions of Portfolio 6.1 are anticipated for release on February 7, 2003 -- the update for 6.x users is available now, however. The full version of Portfolio 6.1 costs US$199.95. Upgrades from Portfolio 5 cost $99.95.
