Mac game publisher Aspyr Media has released a patch for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, the hit squad-based tactical action game released late last year for the Mac. The new version is ready for download from Macgamefiles.com.

Ghost Recon puts you in control of the Ghosts, an elite military reconnaissance team sent into hot zones in Russia and East Africa to quell problems before they get out of control. You equip your team with realistic military hardware, plot their course, and execute the mission without getting hit. In this game, unlike so many others, one shot equals one kill -- there are no second chances, or hidden caches of health packs you can pick up to recharge your abilities.
The update itself is Mac version 1.0.1, but synchronizes the game's internal underpinnings to the PC version 1.4. As a result, by applying this update, you'll once again be able to play against PC users who have updated to the new version.
Dozens of changes have been made to Ghost Recon with this new version -- a variety of graphical and audio improvements have been made, along with improvements to multiplayer gaming, the game's artificial intelligence, and more. The complete list of changes is provided in the Read Me file included with the updated version once it's installed.
What's more, changes have been made to improve Mac OS-specific issues; potential crashes involving background music have been fixed, for example, and a problem displaying depth value when frame rates are visible has also been corrected. Some changes have also been made to improve the way that Ghost Recon works with the Mac-only online gaming service GameRanger.
The developers note that replay files created using the first version of Ghost Recon won't work with the software once this patch is installed. Saved campaigns and other settings will work after the update, however.
