Pixologic has released ZBrush 1.55b, an update to their 2D, 2.5D and 3D painting and modeling tool.

ZBrush is an image creation and processing tool, powered by a real-time rendering engine. Based on "Pixol" rendering technology, ZBrush lets artists apply both 2D and 3D effects in one integrated workspace You can paint with color, material, texture and depth, as well as sculpt and texture 3D models.

With the 1.55b update, ZBrush adds Mac OS X compatibility; it also works with Mac OS 8.6-9.x. Version 1.55b also beefs up texturing controls, expands online help, and offers code improvements and enhancements, according to Pixologic.

ZBrush 1.55b is a free upgrade for registered users. For others, the cost is US$399. A demo version is available for download from the Pixeologic Web site.
