Not everyone uses Microsoft Word. For those who don't have the program but receive Word documents from clients and colleagues, icWord from Panergy is a great utility for viewing Word documents. IcWord enables Mac users to open, view, and print Word files (even those created on a PC platform), while preserving original formatting.
Distributed exclusively from the Panergy's Web site, a single user copy of icWord is available by download or as a CD-ROM for $20. A free 30-day trial download is also available.
Using icWord is simple. You can copy a portion or all of the text from a file, and paste it into another word processing application. Also, icWord has built-in file decompression, and it can perform a word search within a document. But, icWord is not a replacement for a word processor. You are not able to edit the imported document.
IcWord does a decent job of displaying the original formatting; it will match fonts as closely as possible to that of the original document. Tables, tabs, and headers and footers look similar to the way they would if opened in and printed from Microsoft Word.
