Just in time for Tomb Raider's debut this summer as a major motion picture starring Angelina Jolie, Mac game publisher Aspyr Media has announced plans to publish Tomb Raider: The Trilogy. The collection incorporates new content that hasn't been released on the Mac, and is presently in the final candidate stage of conversion.

Tomb Raider is the enormously popular third-person 3D action game originally developed by Core Design and published for the PC by Eidos Interactive. Aspyr Media licensed Tomb Raider II for publication on the Mac several years ago and it became one of their biggest selling titles ever, helping to propel Aspyr forward as a purveyor of A-list Mac game titles. Since then, new Tomb Raider releases have been a mainstay of Aspyr Media's Macintosh game lineup.

Contrary to what the title of this new package suggests, a total of six games are included all together, including the "Gold" versions of the first three games (ergo, The Trilogy). All told, users get Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider Gold, Tomb Raider II, The Gold Mask -- which has never been released before on CD-ROM, according to Aspyr -- Tomb Raider III, and The Lost Artifact, which has never been released before on the Mac.

Tomb Raider: The Trilogy also incorporates new, high-resolution movies, an integrated installer for all games, and the latest updates. Aspyr reports that the new collection will be available for pre-order early next week.

Expected to carry a suggested retail price of US$29.95, Tomb Raider: The Trilogy carries the following minimum system requirements: PowerPC 603/180MHz or faster (any iMac, G3 or G4 is okay); Mac OS 8.6 or later; 32MB RAM (64MB recommended); 4x CD-ROM; hard drive and color display; QuickTime 4.0 or higher (included).

Tomb Raider: The Trilogy marks the second title Tomb Raider-related title that Aspyr Media and its Mac game development partner, Westlake Interactive, are working on presently. Tomb Raider Chronicles is all but done, and is just waiting for work on the Editor software to be complete.
