The Mac-only online gaming service GameRanger is the location tomorrow evening of a special chat with game publisher MacPlay. The focus of discussion will be on the release of the demo version of Aliens vs. Predator.
The event will be a moderated Q&A session. There will be prize giveaways, as well, and the guests of honor will be taking on GameRanger users in online battle.
GameRanger is -- for the next several days -- the exclusive host of the Aliens vs. Predator demo. So, if you're looking the for demo itself, this is the only legitimate place to get it (by agreement with MacPlay) until September 6.
Aliens vs. Predator was recently announced as a MacPlay acquisition. The game puts you in the role of one of three different species -- Aliens, Predators (as depicted in the same named movies) or humans -- as you try to survive a relentless onslaught. The game features more than 40 levels and sports 10 different multiplayer modes, including Species War, Co-op, Deathmatch and Tag.
GameRanger has, for the last two years, served as the center of the online Mac gaming community. The service sports more than 50,000 registered users and includes support for more than 80 shareware and commercial games for the Macintosh. It also incorporates chat features and tracking services for some of the most popular multiplatform games around, like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena.
GameRanger's Aliens vs Predator chat and demo party event is scheduled to kick off Tuesday, September 4, at 5 pm PT, 8 pm ET. GameRanger is free to download and use, so if you haven't already installed it, make sure to visit the GameRanger Web site and grab the client software soon.
(Please note the corrected date; when this story was first posted, the event was listed as happening tonight, as reflected by the original press release. The schedule was changed to tomorrow, and the story updated to help prevent confusion.)
