All of the Zend commercial products are ready -- at least as far as research and development are concerned -- with the necessary support for the Mac OS X, according to Adi J. Brand, Zend's vice president of international sales.

However, the company isn't sure if there's a real market for them with Mac developers. But you're being offered an opportunity to help them decide.

PHP is an open-source server-side scripting language (freely downloadable from php.net and zend.com) that creates dynamic Web pages for e-commerce and other Web applications.

Jeremy Gerber, Zend's director of product marketing, is soliciting Mac developer comments on the following questions:

  • Would you be interested in the Zend IDE (integrated development environment)?
  • The Zend IDE currently includes a debugger. Would you be interested in the debugger as a standalone product?
  • Would you be interested in the Zend Encoder Unlimited, which allows developers to encode their PHP code and thereby protect their intellectual property? Developers who sell the applications they develop most often use it.
  • "In short, we believe that we can do the necessary porting to make these developers' products available, if there should be a willing market," Gerber told MacCentral. "These products will only be created if we think we can sell them."

Gerber wants to hear from Mac developers who would like to beta test these products and/or would consider purchasing such products. You can e-mail him (Jeremy@zend.com); please place with the message "Mac beta tester" in the subject.

"While we obviously can't promise that we will come out with the products at this stage, we do promise to be influenced by MacCentral readers in our final decision," Gerber said.
