MailCall, the email notification application from Ekim Software, has been upgraded to version 1.8, and has been Carbonized for Mac OS X compatibility.

Along with Mac OS X support, the update fixes various bugs with IMAPv4 monitoring. New features in this version include the ability to delete and read email without launching your email application.

While running, the utility performs periodic checks of your account(s) and notifies you when new mail has arrived or when you have mail in your box. MailCall has options that let users customize its behavior. According to the folks at Ekim, MailCail is especially useful for people who use email a lot and don't want to keep a large application, such as Outlook Express, open in the background. Both POP3 and IMAP4 protocols are supported in MailCall.

The 1.8 update is free to registered users. It costs US$12 to register. MailCall can be downloaded from the Ekim Software Web site. It will run for 15 minutes, then quit, unless it's registered.
