Yesterday Aladdin Systems released StuffIt Deluxe 6.5 for Mac OS X. Today they released its "little brother," StuffIt Lite 6.5.

The StuffIt Lite package includes StuffIt Expander (freeware) and three shareware utilities; DropStuff (which creates StuffIt .sit archives), DropZip (which creates .zip archives), and DropTar (a drop box compression utility that creates Tar files). According to Peter Thomas, StuffIt group product manager, StuffIt Expander now includes Palm OS file support to "automatically simplify" the process of installing files on any Palm OS handheld

StuffIt Expander is free and can be downloaded from the Aladdin Systems Web site. You can buy the entire StuffIt Lite package for US$49.95. Individually, the shareware items cost: DropStuff for $30, DropZip for $20, and DropTar for $20.

Customers who purchased DropStuff (5.0 or higher) or DropZip and have their registration number are entitled to a free upgrade to their product within StuffIt Lite 6.5. Also, Aladdin is offering all StuffIt Lite, DropStuff, and DropZip registered users an upgrade for $19.95 to StuffIt Deluxe now through Jan. 31. To download StuffIt Lite, go to the product Web site.

StuffIt 6.5 requires a Power Mac with System 8.1 or higher (including Mac OS X) with 2 MB of RAM and 16 MB of available disk space.
