EasySoft Creations has announced the release of MacAstronomica 2.0, a shareware sky mapping utility suitable for Mac OS 8.6 or higher. The software generates sky maps at any time, from anywhere on Earth.

MacAstronomica 2.0

MacAstronomica's maps display all the planets and stars visible to the naked eye, along with galaxies, nebulas, the Ecliptic, meteor showers and the Milky Way. The software also shows constellations and a table lists visible objects. Other features include an orrery -- a mechanical model of the solar system, a sundial/moon dial and an astrological birth charge generator. You can print sky maps and birth charts, too.

Improvements in version 2.0 include:

  • A much more functional interface.
  • Enhanced graphics.
  • More objects in the program's database.
  • An astrological birth chart generator complete with automatic overview.
  • An sundial/moon dial.
  • Automatic computation of the Julian day and the Jewish date.
  • Ability to manage custom locations and save them in observation files.
  • Ability to copy and export images and data.
  • Ability to set a Home location.
  • Full-screen display option.
  • Three View styles: map (traditional), night-vision and photo.
  • Enhanced Help center.
  • Other minor enhancements.
  • MacAstronomica 2.0 is distributed as shareware, and costs US$25 to register. Users of the 1.x version can upgrade for $15. The software requires a PowerPC processor, Mac OS 8.6 or later, and an 800 x 600 pixel display (or larger) with support for 24-bit color. MacAstronomica is full trilingual, localized for English, French or Spanish.
