Destineer's Mac publishing label, Bold, has announced that it will ship Links Championship Edition for the Mac later this year. Bold emphasized that its Mac version of Links Championship Edition will ship near-simultaneously, include the same features and have the same price as its Windows counterpart. It has been known for some time that Bold would ship a Links game for the Mac, but up until now, it hasn't been certain which Links game would come specifically.

Links Championship Edition

Mac users familiar with previous installments of the popular golf game will find a slew of new features in this version, including:

  • A new graphics engine with support for up to 1280 x 1024 resolution and many other enhancements;
  • A new physics engine that takes into account the game's more complex terrain model;
  • The Arnold Palmer Course Designer (as MacCentral reported last week)
  • New personalities, like Sergio Garcia, Annika Sorenstam, Mike Weir and more;
  • 13 world-famous golf courses -- Oakmont Country Club, The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Frankfurter Golf Club, The Judge Course at Capitol Hill on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Thanksgiving Point, The Canyons Course at Bighorn, Pelican Hill, Banff Springs, Chateau Whistler, Four Seasons Resort Aviara, The Prince Course at Princeville Resort, Westfields Golf Club, and Mesa Roja
  • Multiplayer support, including an "asynchronous" play mode that enables you to play online while always making it your turn.
  • Some of the courses included with Links Championship Edition include Oakmont Country Club, The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Four Seasons Resort Aviara, Chateau Whistler, The Prince Course at Princeville Resort, and Westfields Golf Club.

    Bold indicates that Links will be available for the Macintosh in late November. The game will work with Mac OS 8.6 or higher, and will run natively on Mac OS X.

    The new Mac game publisher is now readying its first release, Age of Empires II Gold Edition. That title should ship sometime in October, and it includes both the original Age of Empires game and its add-on pack, The Conquerers Expansion. While Bold is working to bring Microsoft's games to the Mac, its parent company, Destineer Studios, is working on its own next-generation 3D engine and will develop games for PCs, Macs, and video game consoles.
