Hewlett-Packard has released a new batch of digital photography products, including digital cameras, inkjet printers, and premium photo papers.

The digital cameras are the HP Photosmart 318, 612 and 715 models. The US$199 HP Photosmart 318 and $299 612 cameras, with point to shoot features, offer 2.31 megapixel resolution, a 2x digital zoom and a 1.75-inch liquid crystal display (LCD). They also boast automatic exposure control, red-eye reduction, automatic flash, and an energy-saving status display. Additionally, the HP Photosmart 612 digital camera features a 2x optical zoom. They're due to go on sale this fall.

The HP Photosmart 715 digital camera has a 3.3 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom and large, 46-mm lens. The digital camera ships with a 16 MB CompactFlash memory card that can store over 150 photos. And it automatically changes between shoot, view, play and download modes. Also due this fall, expect the HP Photosmart 715 digital camera to have an estimated street price of $499.

All these cameras feature HP's new photo imaging software that automatically transfers photos to a computer and offers automatic photo album page creation that forms and prints photo album pages from downloaded images.

If you're looking for a photo printer to go with a camera, HP is hoping you'll check out the HPS Photosmart 1000, which is only 8.8 x 4.3 inches in size and weighs under three pounds. Designed for portable printing, it can print photos up to 4 x 6 inches on HP Premium Plus Photo Paper. Users can print photos directly from CompactFlash, SmartMedia and Sony Memory Stick memory cards without a personal computer.

Top panel buttons let you scroll through the images contained on the memory card to choose which photos to print, photo sizes, or an index sheet that prints all the photos saved on the memory card. Look for it this fall at a price of $179.

The HP Photosmart 1115 and 1315 color inkjet printers let users print directly from a digital camera via CompactFlash or SmartMedia memory cards slots located on the printer -- without using a computer. The HP Photosmart 1315 printer also features a Sony Memory Stick card slot. The printers offer up to 2400 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution on photo paper.

The HP Photosmart 1315 printer lets you crop, rotate, and adjust image brightness and add borders and a date stamp to the image directly on the 2.5-inch color LCD. You can also use the printer's front panel buttons to attach a photo to an e-mail and use the save button to easily save photos to a computer.

The HP Photosmart 1115 and 1315 color inkjet printers are expected to be available -- you guessed in -- this fall 2001 at $199 and $399, respectively.

Finally, HP will be rolling out enhanced photo papers. Photos printed on HP Photo Paper, Glossy will purportedly dry the moment they're printed. Available in 8 x 11-inch size, HP Photo Paper, Glossy is optimized for HP inkjet printers. HP Everyday Photo Paper, Semi-gloss is optimized to work with HP inkjet printers and is thicker than plain paper. HP's photo papers are due -- oh, heck, you know when -- at prices starting at $5.99.
