Omnis Studio 3.1, the cross-platform development tool, has been released. The 3.1 release brings together all the currently supported platforms, and adds Sun Solaris version 8 to the platform mix, according to MacTech magazine.

Omnis Studio is a high-performance visual RAD tool that provides a component-based environment for building graphical user interfaces (GUI) within e-commerce, database and client/server applications. When used with the company's Web Client plug-in technology, Omnis Studio allows the development of client/server relationships over the Internet using the common Web browsers.

The major features added to Studio 3.1 center around support for Mac OS X, as well as bringing all the supported platforms in line with each other. Omnis Studio 3.1 fully supports the new Aqua interface from Apple and provides a porting tool to help developers upgrade their applications to run under the new operating system. In addition, Studio 3.1 allows you to define "themes" for windows and fonts that control the appearance of your application under Mac OS X, as well as provide equivalent appearance properties for other platforms.

The standard version costs US$149, the enterprise version $599, and the Web edition $1,475. For more info go to the Omnis Software Web site.
