Miglia Technology has a new ATA PCI upgrade, the AlchemyATA133, as well as a ROM updater available from their Web site that will transform an Alchemy ATA100 card into an ATA133, according to Ian Matthews, Miglia's managing director.
The new Alchemy ATA133 card offers 133MB/s available bandwidth for data transfer. Both the new native Alchemy ATA133 and the updated Alchemy ATA100 are immediately compatible with the latest hard drives available from companies such as Western Digital. The Alchemy ATA133 card will also support hard drives that are over 137GB in size.
The Alchemy ATA100/133 are Mac OS X compatible and provide such performance improvements as offering a bandwidth of 133MB/second on each of the two channels, Matthews said. The Alchemy ATA 133 PCI card is also fully compatible with Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x.
"Best of all, you can use a hard drive attached to the card as a boot volume for maximum system performance," Matthews said. "With the new Alchemy ATA133 card we are increasing the Mac's performance advantages over PCs. By also making a ROM updater available to our existing customers free of charge we are recognizing the value that they have in their current hardware."
Also available shortly as a download for older Pre-G3 PowerMacs is a utility that will enhance the audio and video playback on these machines when using the Alchemy ATA products. This utility is free to registered users. Compatible Macs include: 7300, 7500, 7600, 8200, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600 and clones; Power Mac G3 Beige; Power Mac G3 Blue & White; and Power Mac G4. The utility works with Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X.
