To help assuage rumors that the Mac version of Myth III: The Wolf Age has been delayed or cancelled, MacSoft today provided some details about the game's status. The communication comes in the form of an "A-Level bug list," a list of the most serious problems that remain to be fixed before the Mac game ships.

Myth III: The Wolf Age

Myth III: The Wolf Age went gold master for the PC in mid-October. The PC version has been published by Take Two Interactive's Gathering of Developers imprint, while MacSoft is handling the Mac version. It's the latest game in the franchise first created by Bungie Software. A prequel, Myth III takes place a millennium before the events in Myth and Myth II. The game tells the tale of Connacht the Wolf, a legendary hero who saved mankind from the clutches of the vile Mykridia and the oppressive Trow. The game features many of the same gameplay elements as its predecessors, but it incorporates a brand-new 3D engine and many other enhancements that bring it up to date.

  • Most of the Mac-specific problems with Myth III: The Wolf Age are associated with Mac OS X, as evidenced with the list MacSoft provided.
  • Random crashes under OS X when using an Nvidia card. Traced to GeForce drivers for OS X.
  • Unexplained performance drop under OS X around build 134 (PC gold version).
  • LAN networking broken under OS X.
  • GameSpy broken under OS X. (GameSpy is the online gaming service used by Myth III.)
  • "Mumbo Jumbo has been working hard on getting these issues resolved," reported MacSoft product coordinator Nate Birkholz. "While they are working on these, they are fixing the Mac-specific B-level bugs and folding in fixes and tweaks reported from the PC version.

MacSoft's status update provides some additional color to comments offered by MumboJumbo Games executive producer Mike Donges via his .plan file, which was updated late last week.

"A word on the Mac version ... it is very close, and MacSoft is gearing it up for the holiday season. They are as committed as us in getting it to the eager Mac users. The fact of the matter is that we ran into some unforeseen issues that have caused it to take us a bit longer to get it ready for release," said Donges.

"I don't think that the few extra weeks of practice that the PC users have will do them any good once the Mac users start hitting GameSpy (this coming from an ex_Applite). Good luck, y'all," he added.
