The high-speed interface and high-performance disk mechanism inside makes the 3000DV ideal for retrieving digital video libraries, digital still images, high-res scans and MP3 files, according to Maxtor. It's compatible between FireWire-equipped Macs and PCs as well. The 7200 rpm drive can transfer data up to 28MB/s sustained, according to Maxtor. Maxtor also noted that the 3000DV could be booted from a Macintosh as well, provided that the Mac shipped with Mac OS 9.0.2 or above.
The drive includes an A/C power adapter, a 6-foot six pin to six pin FireWire cable, and installation software. Maxtor also offers optional PCI and CardBus FireWire adapter cards to add FireWire capabilities to older Power Macs and PowerBooks that did not come so equipped from the factory.
The new 80GB Personal Storage 3000DV carries a suggested retail price of US$349.95 and is available now through Maxtor's network of retailers and via the company's online store, MaxtorDirect.com.
